Glacier Series back at Fancourt for John Bland Tournament

Fancourt Links
The Links at Fancourt host of this Saturday's John Bland Tournament

GEORGE (2013 July 30) – Fancourt will host the Glacier by Sanlam Junior Series for the second time this year when the John Bland Tournament is played at The Links this Saturday.

The 22nd of 25 tournaments on this nationwide junior series is being played in recognition of one of South African golf’s most consistent performers on the international stage.

Since turning professional in 1969, Bland has won 36 tournaments worldwide, including titles on the Sunshine Tour, Challenge Tour, European Tour, Champions Tour and European Seniors Tour.

Bland’s two European Tour victories saw him beat none other than Bernhard Langer and Seve Ballesteros in the Eighties.

He is also a multiple winner of the Sunshine Tour Order of Merit.

The Links will be easily the toughest course played on this year’s Glacier by Sanlam Junior Series.

According to Bland, “The challenge of The Links is that when you first see it, it’s a bit frightening. It’s very difficult around the greens and if you start missing them it’s going to test you. Sometimes you can only get the ball to within 20 or 25 feet of the hole if you miss the green on the wrong side. So your course management has to be very good, and you need to keep the ball in play. It’s a very demanding golf course on every shot.

Issued on behalf of the Glacier Junior Series by Michael Vlismas Media.
