Three golfers are in line for the August 2019 European Tour Golfer of the Month award. Who will be nominated - Sam Horsfield, Thomas Pieters, or Erik van Rooyen?
South Africa’s Erik van Rooyen, last season’s European Challenge Tour Graduate of the Year, faces off England’s consistent performer Sam Horsfield and Czech Masters winner Thomas Pieters for this August’s European Tour Golfer of the Month award.
Van Rooyen birdied the 72nd hole to win his first European Tour event after two solid years of work. He edged out Matthew Fitzpatrick with Henrik Stenson and countryman Dean Burmester sharing third. The win booked Van Rooyen a place in the season-ending DP World Tour Championship after jumping into the top ten of the European Tour’s Race to Dubai.
Will it be Belgium's Thomas Pieters, a Ryder Cup player in 2016, who ended his three-year wait for a fourth European Tour title with a one-shot win at the Czech Masters on the same Albatross Golf Resort course where he won his first trophy in 2015?
Pieters won his fourth title in Prague, where Van Rooyen finished in a share of fifth before breaking through.
Or will it be the 1996 English born, who sits on 195 on the OWGR, Sam Horsfield? Who knows? Only time and the European Tour Golfer of the Month voters will.
However, in 2018 Sam Horsfield earned about ZAR 2,030,180 for sharing fifteenth spot at the Sky Sports British Masters. He also tied on third at the D+D Real Czech Masters held on August 18, 2019.
