Koepka withdrawn from Presidents Cup

Rickie Fowler and Tiger Woods at the Tiburon Golf Club in 2018

Brooks Koepka has withdrawn from next month’s Presidents Cup scheduled to tee off at the The Royal Melbourne Golf Club Inc. This is because of an injury. So, U.S. team playing skipper, Tiger Woods has named Rickie Fowler in his place.

Koepka injured his left knee during the CJ Cup last month at the Sheshan International Golf Club in Korea. In a social media statement, he said, despite physical rehabilitation, he was “not able to play golf at this time.”

“Since my injury in Korea, I have been in constant contact with Tiger and assured him that I was trying to be 100 percent in time for the Presidents Cup in Australia. However, I need more time to heal,” Koepka said in the statement. “I’m sorry I won’t be able to represent the red, white, and blue this time around and I wish my teammates nothing but the best as they work to keep the Presidents Cup for the USA.”

However, Fowler’s selection was neither a surprise nor a reaction. Because Captain Woods has known since Koepka re-injured his left knee last month in South Korea that he might need to make a late addition to his team
