Lehman wins Conquistadores Classic

Tom Lehman took advantage of over-50s rookie Steve Stricker's late Sunday stumble to capture his 10th PGA Champions Tour victory at the Tucson Conquistadores Classic at the Omni Tucson National Resort in Arizona.

Two strokes behind Stricker with three holes to play, Lehman, a former Ryder Cup captain and a major winner, closed with two birdies and a par for a 7-under 66, a 20-under 199 three-round total and a one-stroke victory over Stricker, who was playing alongside him, but couldn't finish as well.

Striker could only follow his stunning 2nd round 63 with a disappointing 70.

Germany's ever-present Bernhard Langer (65) finished a further four shots back in sole possession of third place on 15-under with Americans Billy Andrade (67), Fred Couples (70) and Gene Sauers (69) tied for 4th, a further shot back on 14-under.

"I haven't been playing a lot of golf," said the 58-year-old Lehman, who is coming off arthroscopic surgery on his right elbow.

"Had surgery in early November. Had a great doctor and had a great physical therapist, Tom Bratcher, who kind of really put me through the paces over the last 3 to 4 months. I must give him a lot of the credit."

Stricker was trying to become the 19th player after Miguel Angel Jimenez in 2014 to win in his first start on the Champions Tour.

"It was a good week. It was a good positive week," Stricker said. "I did a lot of good things. My game is always a work in progress, it's like anybody's, and I haven't played that much so far this year. I think this is just my fourth event, so yeah, I'm excited."
