The World No 1 Lydia Ko shot a scintillating final round 64 to charge into a runner-up finish behind American Cristie Kerr in the Lotte Championship in Hawaii on Sunday after starting her day in 7th place.
Following as it did a 65 on Saturday, it was easily her best finish in a so-far barren 2017 season that has followed her firing of her caddie and her coach and of her changing the brands of her clubs, shoes and clothing, yet, once again, in her final tournament as a teenager, the hard-to-please youngster has up and fired her latest caddie, Gary Matthews.
The South African was her 9th caddie in just the 3 years and six-odd months she has been a professional so the person she appoints as her 10th caddie heading for her next LPGA Tour event in Texas in two weeks time will clearly be wondering how long he or she is likely to last.
Ko remained The World No 1, but her biggest threats for the World crown, Korean So Yeon Ryu, the World No 2, and Thai Aryia Jutanugarn, currently ranked No 3, kept up the pressure on her by finishing in sixth and seventh place respectively.
