Ryan Moore

Player Profile: Ryan Moore

On 28 Oct 2013, American Ryan Moore won the CIMB Classic, marking his third victory on the PGA Tour. This player profile takes a look at this talented player's recent career milestones as he continues his successful run on the North American golf circuit.

30-year-old Moore was born and raised in Tacoma, Washington State, and showed an interest in golf from a young age. Moore enjoyed a successful amateur career, including four years of collegiate golf during his time at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas. His 2004 season was highly successful, with victories at the US Amateur, Western Amateur, US Amateur Public Links Tournament, and the NCAA Individual Championship.

Moore's transition from amateur to professional golfer was a unique one, showing the tenacity of this young player. After turning professional in 2006, Moore weathered the pressure of competition very well, but he found himself without a clothing and equipment sponsor. Not to be discouraged, the enterprising young golfer became a partner in Scratch Golf, a company specialising in golf clubs and apparel, and played his own brand of clubs during his first seasons on the PGA Tour. The following year, he signed a sponsorship deal with Adams Golf and sold his shares in the business.

Since turning professional four seasons ago, Moore has won three titles on the US PGA Tour. His first victory came in 2009 Wyndham Championship where he beat fellow-Americans Jason Bohn and Kevin Stadler in a three-way playoff. Last season he won the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, hosted by Justin Timberlake, by a single stroke over South Africa's Brendon de Jonge.

On Monday Moore found himself in another playoff, this time against the American Gary Woodland. His victory this week confirms his place among the PGA Tour's regular winners, and bodes well for his future career.
