World Rankings: Woodland into the Top 50

The USA's Gary Woodland and India's Shubhanker Sharma, the respective Sunday winners of the Phoenix Open in Arizona and the Maybank Championship in Malaysia, have taken the most significant strides on a latest up-dated World Gold Rankings list which sees Dustin Johnson, Jon Rahm and Jordan Spieth continuing to lead an unchanged Top-10.

Woodland, now a three-time winner on the US PGA Tour, has hauled himself up from No 53 into a highly secure position inside the all-important Top 50 bubble at No 26 and Shubhanker, who was relatively unknown before he won the first of his two European Tour titles at the Joburg Open barely two months back, has rocketed 121 places from 193 to No 72.

Other strong finishers in the two events who have made good ground in the rankings include Chez Reave who lost a playoff to Woodland in the Phoenix Open and fellow Americans Brendan Steele and Ollie Schniederjans who tied for the third in the same event, and Jorge Campella, the runner-up to Sharma in Malaysia and fellow Spaniard Pablo Larrasabal and Kiwi Ryan Fox who finished a shot behind him in a tie for third.

Reavie has jumped from 93rd to 61st, Steele from 51st to 35th, the new kid on the block, Schniederjans from 111 to No 77, Campella for 186th to 112th, Larrazabal from 168th to 134th and Fox from 126 into a top-10 spot at No 95.
