On the US PGA Tour America’s Bill Haas was victorious at the AT&T National on Sunday, beating Roberto Castro to win his fifth career title on the Tour.

The final round provided fans with ample excitement as several players vied for the title on the front nine. It was at the turn, when Haas broke away from the pack with birdies at the eighth, ninth, and tenth holes, that the American emerged as a likely winner.

For South Korea’s Lee Dong-Hwan, Sunday’s final round was an opportunity to shine. The Tour rookie carded an impressive 64, including nine birdies, in an attempt to catch up with Haas. In the end however, the young Lee had to settle for third place alongside America’s Jason Kokrak.

Sunday’s victory marks Haas’s fifth win on the US PGA Tour. The 31-year-old has already won close to $ 3 million this year with seven top 10 finishes, and is now also one of the top 10 money earners on the Tour.

In Europe, England’s Paul Casey overcame challenging weather conditions to win the Irish Open – his first win on the European Tour in almost three years.

As the final round began on Sunday, Casey found himself four shots off the pace with Holland’s Joost Luiten in the lead. As the overnight leader made a convincing start on the final day, commentators widely expected the Hollander to win – until the turn.

As wet weather conditions closed in on the course at Carton House, Luiten’s form appeared to deteriorate – he bogeyed the 12th and 16th holes to give Casey a chance at victory.

Unperturbed by the rainy weather, the Englishman began his charge on the eighth hole, and by the fourteenth he would have carded a total of five birdies to take the lead. Despite bogeys on the 15th and 16th, Casey eagled the final hole to clinch his first title in two-and-a-half years.
