Rory McIlroy wins 2019 FedExCup

Rory McIlroy wins 2019 FedExCup

Rory McIlroy took the lead on the 7th hole in the final round of the 2019 TOUR Championship at East Lake in Atlanta on Sunday and never looked back. The four-time Major winner took home the record $15 million FedExCup grand prize.

McIlroy started the Tour Championship at 5-under par. However, over four rounds he shot the best score of the week, 13-under, to close with a four-under 66 - four shots ahead of Xander Schauffele.

Paired with the world’s No. 1 ranked golfer, Brooks Koepka, in the final round, McIlroy shot a 4-under par 68. On the other hand, Koepka wrapped it up with a 74.

"If you look at the way it all played out, you had the No. 1 and 2 in the regular-season FedExCup standings playing in the final group this week, so I think it worked out well."

"I was part of that decision to go with the staggered format," McIlroy added. "I talked about it in meetings and debated it, and it definitely simplifies it for us playing and also for the fans. Golf is very averse to change sometimes, so it'll take a while to get used to, but for the first run of it, I think it went well."

McIlroy’s $15 million win is the biggest prize in professional golf history. That’s $5 million bigger than what he made when he won the FedExCup title three seasons ago.

With this win, the Northern Irishman joins Tiger Woods as the second two-time victor of the PGA Tour’s massive playoff bonus payout.
