Saunton Golf Club, West Course

The West Course is the second of the 2 courses at Saunton Golf Club. It was added to Saunton Golf Club in 1935 some 38 years after her sister course Saunton Golf Club, East Course. J.H. Fowler was responsible for drafting this fine championship links course. The new Saunton Golf Club, West Course was later re-designed by Frank Pennink. It closed during the war and reopened in 1974 after the 2rd World War.

The West Course underwent a major restoration in 1987-8 that included, restructuring most bunkers, refurbishing some greens, removal of unwanted trees and clearing out of undergrowth between fairways.

The West Course at Saunton Golf Club is 6150 yards long and 71 pars of pure championship links and is considered the with best in the whole of British Isles. Saunton Golf Club, West Course mimics the traditional links layout of The East Course but The West Course offers rigged dune lands, is a little shorter, eccentric, more elevation charged and no weak holes. Requires a clever and strong placing of your ball off the tee to get at the greens with every approach. The green centres demand full commitment but are perfectly fair if you choose the right line.
