Augusta National Golf Club

The Augusta National Golf Club is arguably the best acquainted 18-hole golf course in the world. It is located about halfway up the Savannah River in Augusta city, close to the Georgia; South Carolina boundary but within Richmond County in the U.S. state of Georgia. It is a private association, considered to be the world’s most exclusive golf club. It has earned a spontaneous reputation, in ubiquitous high golf standards in all aspects.

The Augusta National Golf Club was founded by Bobby Jones and Clifford Roberts. Construction began in 1931 by a group effort of top golf course designers, Jones and Alister MacKenzie. Augusta National golf course has evolved into a universal point of reference, against which every aspiring golf course design is measured.

Play began in 1932, but the official grand opening was launched in January of 1933. By the mid-1930s Augusta National had begun to host one of golf's four major championships of regular men's golf, the Masters Tournament. It hosted its first Masters in 1934.
